Subject: Traineeships for the Housing Sector

Members of the housing sector at the members meeting in December 2004 indicated the need for a short-term solution to address the chronic shortage of skilled labour in the workplace.

To relieve the current shortage and address the attrition rate of older persons leaving the industry, members present supported a training program of short term traineeships to bring young semi skilled workers into industry.

Your executive has lobbied the Minister the Hon Stephanie Key to support this industry initiative and been successful, with the Minister agreeing to fund the training of two courses as a pilot program.

The Executive Committee member training is Paul Klepcyzski who is convening the courses at TAFE Gilles Plains with the first course now under way.

Members now is your turn to show your commitment to your industry and give these young people a chance to prove their worth in your work place for work experience.
